An extractor should be included in all kitchens as standard, regardless of whether it is new or old. It is so important for the property in general, as it will remove water vapour from the air and prevent the space from becoming damp. This is an essential function that ensures your building won’t begin to suffer from problems with damp in the walls and on the ceiling, preventing a buildup of mould as well.
If you are able to, get a cooker hood that vents out. This is the most efficient method and will carry vapour out of a building via an external vent. It is usually possible for most kitchens because the pipework can be quite long.
If it isn’t possible to vent out, it is still possible to have an extractor fan. Choose a recirculating option, which will filter the air. You will need to replace the filters regularly to keep it working efficiently.
